Travel to the Dominican Republic for tourism purposes

1) Refugees

To travel to the Dominican Republic, the Canadian Travel Document (blue) is accepted without the need for a visa.

2) Work Permit, Student Permit

As long as the person holds a “Canadian work visa” or “Canadian student visa” that allows them to re-enter Canada, they will not require a visa to travel to the Dominican Republic. This also applies to holders of a visa from the United States, the Schengen Area, or the United Kingdom.

3) Permanent residents who do not hold a Canadian passport

Holders of a Canadian permanent residence are accepted into Dominican territory without the need for a visa.

4) Extension of stay

To extend a tourist stay in the Dominican Republic, the request must be made online through General Directorate of Migration’s website, where the interested person will proceed to pay the corresponding fees. These fees may also be paid at the time of departure.

According to the latest calls, the eTicket cannot be completed for both “entry and departure” if the interested person will stay for more than 30 days. Therefore, it has been recommended to complete only the entry eTicket first and then the departure eTicket later.

5) Travel with criminal records

7) Important – eTA

The eTA is not considered a visa; therefore, it would not be considered to facilitate the entry of visitors to the Dominican Republic without a visa.

Please note: This Consular Section does not issue tourist visas, as applicants are understood to be currently in Canada.

9) Is the eTicket required?

Yes. The eTicket is a mandatory and free form that must be completed before traveling to the Dominican Republic and upon departure. You may complete it at the following link: https://eticket.migracion.gob.do/

10) My passport is valid for less than six (6) months. Can I travel to the Dominican Republic?

A special regulation has been extended until December 31, 2026, allowing visitors arriving from Canada for tourism purposes only to travel to the Dominican Republic with a passport that is valid for the duration of their stay and departure from the country.

11) Traveling with pets to the Dominican Republic

To travel with pets to the Dominican Republic, you need to complete the veterinary certificate signed and dated by an official veterinarian (Canadian Food Inspection Agency – CFIA). You can find it here: terr_anima_export_certif_pets_internat_trilingual_1396373344430_eng.pdf.

• This document cannot be older than 20 days. The certificate must contain the name and address of the owner, as well as the complete identification of the pet (name, race, breed, date of birth/age, sex, color, microchip number and/or markings). This certificate is valid as is, and you will not need to send it to our Embassy.
• Additional information that must be included in the certificate: The pet was vaccinated against rabies (must include the date of vaccination and expiration date, type/serial number, if any), and the name, license number, address, and signature of the veterinarian who administered the vaccine.
• The vaccine must be based on inactivated viruses and administered no more than 12 months and no less than 30 days prior to the travel date (3 years is acceptable, Canada only). The pet must be free from infectious or contagious diseases and must come from an area where there have been no major diseases for the last 60 days.
• All pets vaccinated against rabies for the first time must receive the vaccine at least 4 weeks (30 days) before traveling. Puppies should not be vaccinated against rabies before they are 3 months (12 weeks or 90 days) old. The rabies vaccination certificate must include the puppy’s age or date of birth.
• Adult dogs (15 months or older) must have a history of rabies vaccinations (the first administered after 3 months of age) and have a record of all rabies booster vaccinations. With this record, it is not necessary for adult dogs to wait 4 weeks before traveling.
• Your pet’s rabies vaccination certificate must not expire during travel. Verify that it will remain valid throughout the trip.
• After 30 days in our territory, your pet must have a new certificate issued in the Dominican Republic, since the Canadian pet form is only valid for 30 days.
  
  Upon arrival in the Dominican Republic, in the immigration section at the airport, ask for the animal control officer. The officer will check the documents and your pet for the proper entry of a live animal into our country, and you will pay the corresponding fee.
